<image:caption>When an adult says they, “don't see color,” they are ignoring both the beauty and the problems in this world. The inability to see color is the inability to spread compassion, love, and change for equality. Color allows us to open both our eyes and ears to the real and living world around us. Don’t overlook it. Don’t shut it out. xxCass</image:caption>

<image:caption>So, it’s a balance. But it's also good to know a lot of people experience these qualities or quirks. So in the end, we’re all not so different. Our thoughts, ideas, and creativity are just some of the things that keeps us unified. And that’s why it’s important to make art- (no matter if we think it’s crap). That’s it for today. Now, go out and make something! And have a colorful day, xx Cass</image:caption>

<image:caption>When I first started plein air painting, I used to get overwhelmed by color. There seemed to be so much movement and so much to scope from that I found it hard to single down any one form. I found out that many plein air artists starting out have this problem as well. And through training to see color from life and a hell of a lot of repetition, I can say that I better grasp this skill.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - September’s Light</image:title>
<image:caption>Light is one thing I’ve taken for granted previously. When learning a skill like painting, sometimes you think you understand a concept, so you don’t take it into account. Only then, realizing years later that you’ve missed a few steps… or things just ‘click’ at different times. Recently when painting, I try to ask myself where the light is coming from and what color it is. Light is one of the main things that has a dramatic impact on an outdoor painting. *cue the lion king opening sequence* Have a colorful day, xxCass</image:caption>

It was honestly terrible. Some of them even flew into my car and followed me home. I probably looked like a crazed woman forcefully swatting them out the window, saying things like “get out of here!” on my drive home. I can laugh about it now. I think. The first go was cut short, which sometimes happens when working in different locations and types of weather. But the second session was a definite new test on my being. And it can be said in one word; flies. *Dun Dun DUNNNN*</image:caption>

<image:caption>When I first started plein air painting, I used that phrase a lot. And then I began to wonder, why? And, so I started asking around and listening to other artists about when they typically paint outdoors. Answers were varied, but those who were either professionals or those that just needed to put food on the table added to my conclusion: there is NO perfect day.</image:caption>

Sometimes I pretend to be an explorer when I’m out to change perspective on things and open myself up to whatever lies ahead. <image:caption>Texture can be found and created so many ways in a painting. The first five years or so of painting I loved texture and used it excessively. (Rip paintings circa 2010). But….. The more I paint and experiment, I realize that it’s not the AMOUNT of texture used, but rather the WAY it is used, applied, and related to the other types of texture in the piece. In other words, you have to make it work in your favor.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - Slowing Down Through Process</image:title>
<image:caption>Painting everyday has created a lot of questions that I normally have while painting, and (while doing so very consistently) has required me to really think about how I paint. And the effect of thinking about what colors I mix, what brushwork I make, and what I put a stroke next to has slowed down my painting time. I think all artists or people seeking to have a better understanding of anything need to do this from time to time.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Here is a snapshot from the second session of my backyard snow painting. By the time I took the photograph, the clouds had covered quite densely, creating a lot less dimension in the scene. This is a huge benefit of painting from life- If I were to paint from this photograph, I wouldn’t have that much to go off of. Being outside longer allows the eyes to study how the light moves and changes a subject.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Sometime a messy palette can be beneficial to a painting, but other times it can overwhelm a piece in the works. Towards the end of this session, the palette became too chaotic - so I knew it was time to either stop or scrape to make room for other mixtures. I find it important to ask myself questions about my palette throughout the entire session. This helps me better understand my process and know what things I want to keep or tweak in the future.</image:caption>

All beaches have similarities but it’s good to keep in mind things that make one beach setting distinct from another, too. In this painting, I tried to focus on the trees and tall grasses that grow in plenty here.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Here’s a close-up of the reference. I walked around this spot for a bit to try to find the angle and composition that ‘felt’ right. Every painter’s feeling is different when finding subject matter from life- and I’ve learned to trust this initial instinct. Once I find the spot I want to paint from, I try to think about the light, light, light! (Yes it’s that important).</image:caption>

      <image:title>About - Hello there!</image:title>
<image:caption>I am a Fine Artist, focusing most of my time on plein air painting. Originally, I was trained and received a BFA in Illustration. Soon after, I discovered that outdoor painting was for me. I paint in sun, in snow, in wind, and in rain. The way I translate weather and its effects on nature is by being fully present.</image:caption>

<image:title>SIDEBAR - Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.</image:title>
