Shades of Green

Hello all!

As children, we are taught that the sky is blue, the sun is yellow, and the trees are green. Learning these categorization techniques are good tools for children to develop, but at the same time I can’t help feeling this type of learning can limit an individual’s creative and critical thinking potential. In other words; the trees are NOT green!

There are so many shades, tints, and mixtures of green. Some strokes may have a little more warm yellows to suggest light, where other strokes may contain hints of blues or violets, to suggest shade.

Paul Gauguin said it best, “It is the eye of ignorance that assigns a fixed and unchangeable color to every object; beware of this stumbling block.”

There is not one green but thousands in nature. We just have to unteach ourselves to be able to better see.

Have a colorful day,
